Hi.

I've done 2 speed tests of my Wi-Fi via the Speedtest.net app on my 950. The results were: Download 7.12Mbps, Upload 5.33Mbps, Ping 78ms and
Download 5.31Mbps, Upload 1.85Mbps, Ping 78ms

I also did two tests of the Wi-Fi on a Samsung Galaxy Edge S7 using it's Speedtest.net app, and the results were:
Download 51.79Mbps, Upload 10.46Mbps, Ping 25ms and
Download 51.26Mbps, Upload 10.13Mbps, Ping 27ms

This is all within a couple of minutes, and from the same spot a few metres away from my router.

That's a huge difference between both devices. Is there any reason for that? A comparison of both phones shows they both have 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac and dual-band. The only difference is that the Samsung has a letter "e" in addition to the above list.

Just curious, any explanation would be welcome 🙂.

Regards,
Paul

My 950xl just tested at 41Mbps down and 11 up, so the phones can do more.

7mbps sounds like it is not using the same AC level connection. There is an app called "WiFi Tool" that provides a lot more information about WiFi. Perhaps try that to find what connection you are really getting.

Thanks for the reply @realwarder.

Just done three tests straight after each other on my 950:

The first one, the needle did go beyond the 50mbps mark at one stage before settling at around the 43 mark.

It could be that, whilst I was doing the tests earlier, the phone was updating apps in the background without my knowledge as I've seen when I went into the Store app earlier this afternoon a few apps have updated today. (Although, I'd have thought that'd have affected the speed on the Samsung too?)

I've looked a bit deeper on my 950 in Settings > WiFi > Hardware Properties and it's telling me Protocol 802.11b and Network band 5Ghz. (Can't compare to the Samsung, as that phone doesn't give me as much info.)

Am happy enough with those speeds 🙂.

Do you have this problem even when the 950 is the only device using the connection?

You could try transferring files within your LAN as well to see if there's problems locally.
