What is the difference between windows 10S and windows 10 or even 10 pro.?
What is the difference performance wise?

Windows 10 - this is the standard for normal consumers.
Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10 + Additional features more advanced users may appreciate.
Windows 10 S - Windows 10 + can ONLY run programs from the Store.

It typically costs money to upgrade 10 and 10 S to 10 Pro.

Performance-wise, for all three assuming identical software loadouts and hardware, there should be negligible difference.

Does that mean Windows 10 can run apps only from the Store?

What is the point of this? It seems like they are basically just charging more for you to be able to use whatever apps you want?

Normal Windows 10 is NOT limited.

10 S IS limited.

And yes, if you get a PC with 10 S you will be spending money to upgrade to normal Windows.

However, 10 S is currently limited to OEMs to purchase and is likely to not make inroads into the mid-range and above of computers. The Surface Laptop is likely an anomaly and even then it has a free upgrade to 10 Pro available until a certain date, which escapes me.

Windows 10 S is basically Windows 10 Pro but limited to Store Apps. You get the same Domain join and Bitlocker encryption that you get with Pro.

Great for Schools and people who need Windows but want a more secure environment.

This could replace Windows 10 Home and for those that need Pro it is free or only $50 to upgrade.

If you wanted to upgrade Home to Pro now you would pay double that.

This would e good for sub $200 laptops or tablets.

For Grandparents who want Windows but who do not want to worry about vir it ses or malware it is a good choice.

Also for enterprises who need Domain join and encryption plus MS Office but not much else it would be a good choice.

I can see MS offering it in ARM & x86/x64 versions.

The idea behind windows 10 s is to lock software installation to the windows store, makes it much more secure. Children and elderly, or anyone with limited computer knowledge, won't accidentally get a virus or mess their computer up.
