This is just generally a poor idea. It exists not because it is a good approach to security, but because that is what Android app developers were able to provide. Against anybody that is determined and a bit more tech savvy than my grandmother, it's barely protection. Even if you do manage to password protect every app that provides a route to your pictures, every app or app update could potentially open up a new security hole. It's a toy.
Just protect your device with a general password (which everyone should do anyway). If you're worried about giving your device to friends, WP 8.1.1 (denim), has an apps corner (not kid's corner) feature, that allows you to setup a second start screen for exactly that purpose. It's an infinitely more secure approach.
