Is this only for competetion that Microsoft to delivers free upgrades to Windows 10?

I would say yes if the upgrade to Windows 10 was going to be free for everyone running Windows (down to XP) and wasn't time limited.

By being time limited I think it's more to push everyone that still has a support lifecycle over to Windows 10 so they can do the bare minimum support on 7 and 8... if any at all.

Sure I read somewhere that they will include (even counterfeit) XP in the free upgrade program. Which surprised me.
​I don't imagine it will be free for non-personal use (although I could be wrong on that).
​As far as support for 7 and 8 goes, well MS have committed to fairly definite support lifecycles, as with previous OSes.

I think competition is the secondary reason the primary one may be ease for developers and themselves to serve people better than what they can do with the 3 different OSs
