Re: Fustrated with "No Flagship" complaints

I don't care about a flagship!!!
I want an unlocked 640 lte in the USA for under $100.00, and I want it NOW!!!!!

WP was a lot of things but "largely loathed" was likely not one of them.

Maybe I phrased that confusingly. I was referring to Windows 8 the OS, not Windows PHONE aka. the devices themselves.

Your average consumer is not going to make the distinction between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. That's the whole point of Microsoft trying to distance itself from Windows 8, no one cared for it (even if 8.1 is light and zippy and actually quite enjoyable once you get used to it).

Windows Phone 10 will be the mobile poster boy for them. Last thing they want to do is release a flagship WP8 device, which no one will want, and then have to do double time on the marketing to sell the exact same phone as a Windows 10 flagship phone.

I don't like the wait as much as anyone, but this totally makes sense.

I'm still happy with my 1520 flagship, with its 128GB SD card. Microsoft better not let November pass by though, without a new flagship. 2 years is just about my limit. (unless win10 works great on my 1520) then I might let it slide.

Re: Fustrated with "No Flagship" complaints

The complaining is GOOD and NECESSARY. I know several loyal WP fans that has switched platform just because the lack of proper updated flagship devices. I'm also due for a new phone now and getting a 930 today is out of the question (the Icon/930 is now 15 months old). One M8 has a crappy camera is also outdated. I'll likely get a Galaxy S6 and wave bye bye to WP. Not because I wanted to but because I was forced. My current 925 is two years old next month.
So keep complaining until MS listen. They could easily have released a new flagship during the previous half year or so (i.e. a "1030" or a slimmer slightly updated "935") and another one along with Windows 10 (940/1040/1540/...).
Thats exactly what I did with exactly the same phones you mentioned. I have a 925, 930 and now a Galaxy S6. All because I couldn't wait another 6-12mths for a flagship. Microsoft have taken a punt and I I think they've erred badly. I'm sure there are many thinking the same way especially with ppl renewing contracts and because Microsoft have forced their hand, many people are going to be exposed, in my case for the 1st time, to another ecosystem and might never come back. Once you've played with apps that are feature complete it makes Microsoft's platform look all the more unattractive. I sincerely hope Microsoft succeed with Windows 10 but I think they gambled wrong in deciding not to release a flagship in the interim.

I actually agree with you. But I still love my 1520. If It lasts until the next iteration of 1520, I will stay w Windows. I just hope whatever the new flagship phablet is, it lets you use 8.1, not 10 (love Metro).

Ok, commence throwing tomatoes........now

I like Metro too and even though I'm with Android I still think WP UI is much nicer. I used to be the worst Microsoft apologist until I moved to Android and realized how wrong I was to apologize for them! And when u think about the fact that MS were in the mobile game before iOS and Android it makes it even more ridiculous to apologize for them!

Six pages of nag flogging later your STILL not getting a new flagship until W10.

And yes please buy a Galaxy S6, either model. Buy two! Repair shops are going to be making money off these for years to come!

I don't think most folks will hold onto their S6's for years. Although they are sharp looking phones, I'd love to have one with W8 on it.

I also get annoyed by the repeated calls for WP flagships. However, seeing the press that gets generated by new Android, and especially, iPhones, I understand why Windows enthusiasts are itching for a true flagship. Once we get one, it will hopefully give us something to brag on. My BLU Win HD is a good budget phone, but nothing I can brag to iPhone or G3 users about. Also, I'm on T-Mobile and my only options for high-end Windows phones fewer than 2 years old were unlocked phones. That's not the worst thing in the world, but it's not as easy as having something that works with your carrier out-of-the-box.

i think you dont get the point on this

the complaints are not "personal problems", it is already a huge plattform problem and cause of this it is a problem for all WP Users
- wp gets out of scope for "high class" apps (mainly games)
- the lumia 930 is buggy, very buggy...there are still misscolored Displays, there is 2g flickering issue, the camera is worse than 830 camera
- nobody wants to buy an 1 1/2 year old device with a new contract

Actually there is no full featured wp device offered, the only device was the lumia 1520 and is disconntinued...same with the specialist lumia 1020

It is right to complain this to let Microsoft know they dont do the same mistake again....but you are right, too. The decision is there, the complaints wont change this at the moment but it is anyway badly needed

I think microsoft will launch couple of flagships as windows 10 mobile launch, the beautiful os will launch with awesome hardware, and even if they launch flagships with wp8.1 then people will think why to buy such costly handset when if we can get the one with win 10 out of the box within few months, Microsoft will surely launch the flagships they are just focusing on software(mobile) ecosystem(apps) where they are weak currently, and every body knows Lumia hardware are awesome as compared to others in their price range......

People have bought into the one year cycle for a new phone, just because Apple bring out a new phone every year, and expect that to happen across the board of phone manufacturers. I am quite happy with my Lumia 1020 and it does all I need it to do, so whilst I have no expiring contracts (I buy my phones outside of providers) I am also quite content to wait to see what W10 Mobile will bring and then make a decision if I really need a new phone.
Frankly speaking, I would love for MS to bring us a Surface Phone, I would pick that up without thinking.

We live in an age where everything is, "gimme, gimme and gimme now". People are not and will never be satisfied and want something new all the time. I think Microsoft is doing the smart thing by getting Windows 10 ready before releasing another flagship phone. I have a Lumia 1520 and it is perfect for me. I will not be getting anything else until MS releases a Win10 flag phone. I'm satisfied. Yes, i suppose MS could do a yearly release for their flagship phones like the Galaxy S series phones but i don't think that will help them much. Look at the Galaxy devices, they're the "Call of Duty" of phones. (a new phone every year and every year it's the same thing) MS is smart and are releasing quality devices. MS has done a great job of keeping my Lumia 1520 feeling fresh to me. (win 8.1 upgrade and now win 10 preview)

You guys that are saying "we don't neeeeeed yearly cycles" are missing one piece. Pretend someone stole your 1520... Go to a store and buy another one. I dare you. You wouldn't be able to FIND one! You have to go buy something used or from a random retailer online/eBay. That is not something that a lot of people are yet comfortable with or have the time to research getting a 'good' deal.

My sister bought her 1020 from a Microsoft store in 2013 and got the 2 year warranty offered by Microsoft in case she broke the screen (she is tough on phones too). Well, she just broke it, and MS told her for $50 (deposit) they'd give her a brand new 830. Tell me that you'd be happy with trading your 1520 for an 830.............. And that isn't the offer from a carrier, but MS.

So it would be a completely different story if they weren't releasing yearly and also at least carrying their phones for 10-14 months. But INSTEAD, they are not following the yearly refresh and are still following the "carry for 6 months only" cycle!
