Hi,

I have a Surface Pro 3 currently running Windows 8.1 and the 10 tech preview on a partition. In windows 8 I have Office 2013 and MS Project 2013 installed and fully activated but, due to the change in the way MS stores product keys, I no longer have the product keys available. When I eventually upgrade from 8.1 to the final release of 10 at the end of July will I need to activate Office and Project again (which I won't be able to do) or do the licenses persist over the upgrade journey?

If it's office 365 you just have to go to office.com, if it's one-time purchase Office, it's your responsibility to save your own product key since it's not tied to MSA, but YES, the license will persist over upgrade and you don't have to activate again, as long as you don't clean install or refresh Windows. There are some programs that claim can backup your Office activation code, the one I've tried in the past that works is OPAbackup.
