Has anyone tried to create an ISO from the 10240 esd files, and tried to update a Windows 7/8.1 with it. Is it possible, will the licence be adopted?

I have been downloading for about 45 minutes and am only at 6%. Very slow work connection. I plan on doing this once it has finished downloading so will let you know if no one else has replied.

folks on MDL report that upgrading from 8.1 to 10240 keeps your system activated.
Fresh install is a different story. Still a couple more hours to download mine and then I will test myself.
Already upgraded my Surface Pro which was on 10166.

It stays activated as an Insider's license because it is still an Insider's preview version of Windows 10.

Just because you have 10240, that isn't the RTM that you got from the MS Update. It will get an update that has to mark it as RTM before you can have one that will "behave" like it is RTM and not a preview. At least that's the way I understand how this is supposed to work.

10240 is an upgrade only iso, if you do a clean install it will not activate. the only way to keep your activation is to upgrade from a previous build.

Nops. I made a clean installation and remains activated. Zac from WinBeta did the same, and remained activated.

My test laptop was an ISO install from clean and it remains activated. Of course there could be BIOS SLIC data supporting the install...

If you created the ISO on the activated system it will stay activated even on fresh install.

ISO's have not been made availale thru MS as I do believe they are testing the servers for ability to handle millions of simultaneous downloads They are just using the "proper channel" to release to verify this. I think the only way is to convert the install.esd to ISO. There are some torrent sites giving this converted files but you cant be sure if they might be tampered with.

Yeah this is the problem. Anyone attempting to do this conversation has been warned - it could no longer be the MS official file... The conversion process could add some nasty elements to your machine. At this point is probably better to wait until the 29th.

really don't know how your is activated on a clean install when the MS activation servers for Windows 10 are deactivated untl the 29th. There are valid install keys but no valid activation key for Windows 10 yet.

You have to download a program to burn it to a cd or USB drive and boot into that.

Many systems that run XP were made before booting to USB was supported by the BIOS in the way that this requires.

I would recommend you burning the ISO to a DVD. If you don't have a DVD burner, you will need to get access to one by finding someone that does. Burn it to DVD, and install it from the DVD.
