Ok, first you insert the usb drive. Then type on the search box 'Windows Defender'. Then, open it. After that click on the button below the Full Scan, and select the directory you want, to your Usb drive.

I believe mjyumping meant "Custom Scan", not "Full Scan". "Custom Scan" from within Windows Defender allows you to choose which directory or drive to scan, including removable storage devices. "Full Scan" will scan everything.

I too am unable to scan,I'm trying to scan my Lumia 520 while connected to my laptop...odd thing is that it shows up in Explorer as a USB device (drive) but when I go into the custom settings in Defender it fails to show up there.Any suggestions?
I am aware that I don't have any viruses on my phone but I just wanted to see if it worked (because it should) but alas does not.
