Why are my tasks switching every five seconds if woken from sleep, hibernate, or lockscreen?

Task switching every five seconds if woken from sleep, hibernate, or lockscreen

I have a Lenovo Y470 that was running windows 7 before the update. Besides there are a lot of things not working quite right (for example, attempting to open the picture folder to change my user icon causes that window to crash), I am having a task switching bug that is making the computer almost unusable.

If I power it completely off every time I use it, no problem. However, if its woken from sleep, turned on from hibernate, or even logging into it from a lockscreen, every five seconds whatever window that is active will switch to ...something... and switch back. ?'ve turned off any virus software, turned off bluetooth in case that is the problem, I'm at a loss and the only way to fix it is to reboot, then its fine until the next time the computer idles.

I'm not exaggerating about the five seconds thing, either. I timed it. With a watch. This has to be the most frustrating bug I've ever seen.
