Why can't I get Windows 10 to install?

Windows 10 won't install

I have a windows 7 OS. I have the windows icon on the bar at the bottom. When I clock on it the dialogue box appears and says the upgrade is available. When I press the continue button, another box appears with the spinner, which keeps spinning but nothing happens for hours. I have installed all updates to 7
