Why is the trackpad and mouse on my laptop unresponsive after I upgraded to Windows 10?

I upgraded to the new Windows 10 and I have not been able to use my laptop since then as the mouse and the trackpad are unresponsive. I have restarted severally to no avail. The Windows key brings up my start menu and I can generally navigate around a bit with the keyboard. This tells me that everyother thing is probably working fine except the mouse and trackpad. What can I urgently do about this please?

My laptop is Asus X550C series. Thanks a lot.
