Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7, is this a good idea?

Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7

Hi all,

I have a system with the following properties:
Processor: Intel i5 2.27 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
System Type: 64 bit

Is upgrading to Windows 10 from 7 a good idea? How about to windows 8?

And I am not a profi in this, I suppose I need to back up only my files in the windows drive right? not all my data in all the drives.

The specifications of our systems are similar. Back up all your user files (documents, music, photo, videos) in a separate drive before the upgrade, just in case something goes wrong, but you don't need to backup your Program Files for example.
