I can’t remove properties and personal information from JPEGs in windows 10
Windows 10 gives a "the file is open in COM surrogate" error message when attempting to remove properties and personal information from JPEGs using the standard sequence: right click on file > properties > details > remove properties and personal information etc…
Re: I can’t remove properties and personal information from JPEGs in Windows 10, why?
I have the same issue, Windows 10 Pro X64 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3/4 and I cannot remove MetaData from image files or videos, if I choose to create a copy with all possible information removed, I get the error that says the file is in use, open by the COM Surrogate.

If you look in the security tab does your account have the access if the deny boxes are checked you won't have access to update the Metadata. Also make sure the file isn't somehow marked readonly.

I am having the same issue with COM Surrogate and removing properties on a movie file. Permissions are good and it is not read only.
Any help on this?

I'm getting the same message with mp3s. I never got the message in windows 7 but its occurring on windows 10. Can't find much in the way of solutions on other threads. Any ideas?
This thread has a picture of the dialog box that comes up when you try and edit mp3s.
