Hello,

I am in strange problem. I moved to Windows 10 mobile from Android & facing Wifi issue. I have Lumia 640 & it's wifi turned off automatically when my phone is in idle state & screen turned off.

I need to set my wifi always turn on stage. I missed important whatsapp messages & only receive them when I turn on my screen again. It's annoying.

Anyone please help. I searched forum but could get help, because there is no open for wifi "Always turn on"

I am on Windows 10, build number 10.0.10586.29

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

By default when you turn on WiFi , it will stay that way until you turn it off . You can set it to automatically connect to a Hotspot with known password ( of course as long as the WiFi switch is on ) .
Also when you turn it OFF , there is an option to choose when it will be turned back ON ( after 1 hour . 4 hour or manually ) . So if it persists , you can still choose after 1 hour for it to be ON again .
Try a soft reset . If problem persists , maybe a hard reset since it could be a software bug

Hi Nam Long,

Sorry, I didn't receive any reply notification :( Sorry for late response.

I don't turn off my wifi, but as soon as my phone stays inactive for like 5mins wifi turns off automatically & connects again when I turn on my phone screen.

I have Microsoft Lumia 640. I did soft/hard reset but this doesn't help. Wifi turns off automatically after 5 mins of inactivity (I check it from my router page)

8.1 maybe best for you currently . I think it is related to software somehow .
And may i ask if Cellcular network has the same bug ? Since you can always use that instead of wifi for important messages

I have 3 Windows phone.
One Lumia 520 & 2 Lumia 640.

Lumia 520 is on Windows 8.1
One Lumia 640 is on Windows 8.1 Update 2
2nd Lumia 640 is on Windows 10 10.0.10586.36

All have same issue :(

One more thing which I noticed is if I setup hotspot on any of these Lumia devices & no device connects to the hotspot for 5 mins, hotspot turned off automatically :(

These phones were always secondary for me so I never noticed this issue, but now-a-days lumia 640 is my main phone & this issue is very annoying.

Yes, Mobile Data stays online even when screen is off and phone is inactive for hours. I'm using Mobile data as substitute but it's not proper solution for me due to cost :(

With all 3 facing the same issue . Could it be the router ? If not then You may want to send in your 8.1 640 for a fix or replacement.
If these ways couldn't resolve it then i'm out of idea

Wow, first time hearing about this bug... Why not try reset it? Because others I know don't have this issue and they have .39 as well

No Nam, this is not router issue as I have Cisco E4200 & my android phone doesn't disconnect. Router doesn't down it, it's up all it time. When I turn on screen, my lumia's connect automatically to my wifi within secs.

Look like this is software issue not hardware. Any app for it?

Hi mudassar78. I have both the Lumia 520(on w10) and a 640(on 8.1). Both stay connected to Wi-Fi even when the phones are idle for hours. It must be a software issue. Not sure how all your phones have the same bug. Try a hard reset. It should fix the issue mostly.

Go to settings>privacy>radios and check whether radios is off. If it's off, switch it on.

No idea why happening to ll my phones :( Any limitation on "AT&T Go Phone"? Because all my phones are AT&T GoPhone.

Go to settings>privacy>radios and check whether radios is off. If it's off, switch it on.

I think this is not the reason, but it's already ON on my all phones.
