How can I stop Cortana from popping up on my HP laptop?

hello i was just wondering how can i stop my cortana popping up on my screen it keeps coming up ever second

Do you have a shortcut key on the keyboard for search (presuming it was a windows 8.1 laptop?) check if that is stuck.

Also you can sort of disable search should you wish, go to settings - speech, inking and typing -> privacy -> stop getting to know me.
