Windows Central Question

Hi! Although Continuum feature has been out there for a long time, I've always wondered how exactly it works!
Does the application need to be present on the desktop too so that it can help scale up the same app on mobile? Or is it the "shared code" that helps scale up the mobile app (say the - to be - Universal WC app) onto the desktop, regardless of the PC version of the UWP App being there on the desktop or not?!

Continuum involves the following components:

The phone.
A display the phone can talk to, like a TV or one you'd use for your PC.
A keyboard and mouse.
A means of connection whether wireless or with a wired accessory like the Display Dock.

Continuum does not involve another computing device at all. Everything is powered by the phone, which is talking to the display and other hardware directly.

So you do not need a desktop app for it, simply because there is no desktop PC to be involved at all.
