If you read articles it was a decision made by the feedback of ALL windows insiders, they weighed the odds.

So my L920 is confirmed as EOL (over at Neowin. I can't post links here yet).
To be fair, MS made a fair call. The W10M performance on L920 has improved but it's not ready for public release. Loading screen and crashes still occur even after a hard reset.
I guess it's time for an Android phone to utilise those much wanted medical apps. Buying a new WP, hoping those apps will be ported to WM at some point, just doesn't make any sense.

My 1020 runs perfectly on Win 10 .164, they only thing that it lacks is recording in stereo, other than that, it's brilliant.
I'm VERY annoyed there may be no further support. 1020 was a real star, still is

Very melodramatic. Does the device still turn on? Can you text on it? Can you email on it? Can you browse on it? Can you call on it? A non update of an OS doesn't mean it will suddenly stop working. End of life means just that. Non replaceable Battery gone, screen gone, broken, bits falling off or hardware failing etc. Non of which is as a result of non updates.

The way some are going on, they'll need therapy! It's not the end of the world, there are far more important things to think about

It did not "ran out". It was manufactured by delaying the OS.

Windows 10 was supposed to roll out to older devices in December initially...in December the 920 was already over 3 years old. The delayed OS had nothing to do with the support for the 920 running out

Was hoping for more favorable results and can honestly say the news wasn't too much of a surprise to me, amazed my L830 is even on that list considering it is getting up there in age (19ish mon) albeit getting the actual upgrade/update could still be months away, not overly confident either that the results will be favorable when it does arrive since any build I've tried before basically sucked on it... A trait of WM, inconsistencies on same/similar devices that has been proven time and time again.

Good chance my Ativ S, L1020, along with my L830, will spend the rest of this year, and their life, running W8.1 and after that I’ll be moving on “fully” to Android, right now I use my L830 for work yet app updates seem to have slowed down to a trickle even though there’s much room for improvement with those I use, can deal with no OS updates but apps, that just tells me interest by Dev’s has dwindled with little intent on supporting that which runs on the older OS.

Can't help think of my stint with BlackBerry and when they decided to move onto BB10, turned into a fiasco of sorts and they are still feeling the ill effects, don’t see too many things different w/W10M as to how it played out, delays and it alienated many, I predict a long road ahead for the WM platform now.

What really amazes me is when people say they gonna switch platform because MS won't upgrade their phone to Win10. If you want Win10 so bad on your phone why don't you buy a new phone with Win10 instead of a new android phone or iphone?
you dont get the point do you. With other platforms there are always options and no waiting periods. Two years and microsoft gives us this. What about all the issues i ran into while using insider program and they consider our feedbacks not worthy? It has to be related to layoffs. They laid of lot of employees, now most of the phone portfolio and now they are kinda laying off their fanbase too. Welcome to windows mobile one of the most efficient mobile platforms, well as long as your phone has 1GB and quad core and as an additional bonus we have excluded M8 and Icon so other left out users would have company enjoy your stay till the ship sinks or microsoft lays off its phone division.

For the complainers out there ask yourself how many 3 year old Android handsets will be be getting Android N?

My wife has a Galaxy Note 3 and her phone has only just got Android 5.1.
How many 3 year old phones that were provided with developer preview were not updated to their official versions??

What are you feeling about the list of W10M official update, guys?
To me, Microsoft determined the lifetime of a Windows mobile device.
I'm really happy to know that I have a mobile with almost tree years of use ( Lumia 820) and Microsoft worked to upgrade its system, but it was not possible. I'm not sad. I'm enjoying the Windows 10. It's a great job what Microsoft is doing to the system. But, Microsoft, please, think more before to make promises. It's not good to you, nether to the system.

    I'm running W10M on a 950. My last phone was a 1020.

IMHO while it's always nice to have the latest and greatest, you guys on 8.1 are not missing too much at this point. Unless you want to install buggy, crash prone experience on your old, but currently reliable phone. If W10M is buggy on NEW hardware, I can imagine it will be deadly on old hardware.

At some point in the future, Microsoft will improve W10, while 8.1 will fall further behind the times - at which point you're probably better off upgrading. I just don't think W10 is any better than 8.1 at this point. In areas, it's actually worse.

    My two cents.

Again Microsoft does not threat the supporters good. As an owner of a 920 and a 930 and a 800 series phone with WP7 I feel betrayed again. But I stop supporting Microsoft as a platform and lucky me I have a big descision weight within the IT of a major part of the government of our country. Great planning Microsoft just to announce no Windows 10 update for the 920, 1020 and 1320 at the moment we are starting to define the mobile strategy for the next 5 years and software development. Guess what OS we stop supporting stupids.....

I will have the 930 and i'm just wondering if this phone will be left behind just like the x20 series in the next update...

Probably MS could avoid all this negative backlash for leaving behind the x20 series by making this update available as optional and warning about possible problems and other stuff. Setting the expectations too high is not a good idea.

ever since they cancelled the android project i have lost all hope for the platform. will play around with my 1020 but my oneplus one stays my no.1 device. maybe i will wait and see what nokia has up its sleeve. i would not be surprised if they shorten the support period for current devices like the 950 series and give up altogether.they make more money selling apps anyway.

I really like windows phone and I've owned several phones: 1020, 1320, 930 and 830. But now I am getting tired of MS care about it's loyal customers. I don't think it is acceptable for its customers not to support the x20 with devices at least 1gb of RAM. I don't think it's a hardware issue, really. The slower lumia 435 is a slower device that 820, 920, 1020 and 1320 but still it got supported. Really it's not about those 4 x20 devices are old. The 1320 was launched the same day as 1520 so it's not that old (and 1320 is only slighty faster that 920). Even the 1020 is just half year older than the 1520. Yeah yeah granted the 435 has newer generation chip and also the 830 (which is slightly faster than 920), but win10 overall performance is not acceptable on 830 (at least for me) compared when 8.1 was released. You can debate that 830 has 4 cpu cores and the 4 x20 devices only has 2 cores, I doubt if win10 and most apps consumes more than 2 cores. What is most important here is the single thread performance of the cpu.

What is really disappointing here is MS promised to support 8.1 devices before but I think it is really logical not to support the 512mb devices. That promise gave so much high hopes then in an instance they drop it. That is really frustrating. especially for 1020 owners who are still waiting for the next gen 1020.

Another fact, WP strength is having smooth experience on all devices regardless if you have high-end or low-end phone. Well win10 is becoming like the old Android where to get at least smooth performance you must get a higher end device. I am currently using Lumia 830 and I don't think its cpu is really that slow but win10 overall performance is poor (even with hard reset). I think MS just don't have time to optimize win10 yet at the level close to 8.1 (maybe in future releases).

I have two iPad 2 which are older than 920, but two devices are still running smoothly on iOS 9. What I am saying is that's a great customer support coming from Apple. Yeah iOS 9 was really an optimized iOS7 (which was really slow on older iOS devices, but eventually Apple optimized the OS). I think MS should have done the same way so as not to upset all of the 4 x20 devices. I mean some x20 users have good experience with win10 and some were not. MS should have left the choice to its customers.

I'll stay with my Lumia 1020 running 10586.164 until a WM10 phone is released with a camera as good or better than the 1020. Wife loves her 1020 on 8.1 and will not update to 10. 1020 works fine on 10586. Thinking late Summer to early Fall for such a phone.
Agree with you, I'll continue running W10M on my 1020 until the phone fails completely and I'm forced to get a new phone. And that new phone has to be as good as the 1020 in terms of camera
