Re: Lumia 520, 720, 920, 1020, 1320 Owners

Lies? Or just overly optimistic/ambitious. I don't think they realized how badly some of the x20 devices would run WM10. A better way to state it would be "We hope to make it available but need feedback on how devices perform." Still, that's not enough for some because that creates a crapstorm of "HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH WP7!1!!" So, they're in an unwinnable situation. Maybe after this time they'll get it right. Hey, at least half of the WP8 devices are upgradable to 10 vs zero WP7 devices moving to WP8. Now that was a fiasco. ;)

Least they shudnt have said all phones running 8.1 will get windows 10.

Re: Lumia 520, 720, 920, 1020, 1320 Owners

Cant say im not disappointed but then you need to agree that old hardware does need to be phased out eventually. It cant support everything new. MS did try their best to support all (which is why they opened up Insider to all and then keep the ones that actually could handle the OS and its planned upgrade). Its simply thinning the herd. Which is far less than what i can say for Android (which stops support for a huge amount of phones with each OS upgrade). I have a 3 year old Android tab which cannot go beyond KitKat :) So just accept the facts and move on rather than whining.

Btw i did try Windows 10 on my 1320 and no i cannot use it as a daily driver (Edge was sluggish if the site is a wee bit heavy), had the occassional freeze and crashes (Im guess memory couldnt handle all the processing load), plus battery life was down by atleast 30%. IO with data on SD cards was also pretty bad. So im not surprised 1320 was left out (no sense having a dedicated team to handle 5 year old hardware to try and keep it alive with regular CPR procedures) :)

Re: Lumia 520, 720, 920, 1020, 1320 Owners

last night i installed w10 build .164 for the first time on my L1320 and i choose release preview ring but it overheated and drained the battery overnight (i left it on 100% when i went to sleep and found it on 19% when i woke up after 6 hours) so i changed it to slow ring and it just restarted without downloading or installing anything and the overheating and battery draining just disappeared :) and i'm really having a good experience with w10 on my L1320 right now except for the occasional freeze when i overuse it... i really wish that MS included the lovely L1320 to the firmware upgradeable phones.

yes i did a hard reset right after w10 .164 finished installing.. and then i restored it from 8.1 backup and everything working well right now. and it's as fast as 8.1 was.. didn't really noticed a big difference.

Re: Lumia 520, 720, 920, 1020, 1320 Owners

I am using Win 10 insider .164 on a Lumia 822 as well as Lumia 535

Both are running fine without any issues. Only issue i noticed was that battery drains faster after upgrade. Some modern games like Fifa 15 lag slightly on the 822 which is understandable. ALso noticed couple of apps for 8.1 some times crashes but even those run when tries second time.

Other than that absolutely no issues. The UI is butter smooth with absolutely no problems. Loving it.

I think the Build .164 is the best WM10 for the 1020, good battery life and better resource management, smoother operations

Re: Lumia 520, 720, 920, 1020, 1320 Owners

My daily driver is a Lumia 830 that I WON'T upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile again: I've been an Insider for months, providing a lot of feedback but it seems that most of the issues are still present in the latest build (a colleague of mine owns a Lumia 830 and, after upgrading to Windows 10 a couple of days ago, he's experiencing the same issues that I reported months ago to Microsoft).

On the other hand, I also have a Lumia 720 on Windows 10 (10586.164, as Windows Insider) and it's smooth enough to run it... I'd say that owners of those device should be granted with the right to opt-in (through Upgrade Advisor) after being warned that the UX might not be 100% as expected.

we can argue all we can. the facts remain: MS did it again, this time by talking to early things that they were not sure about. It's curious to see the result of all this fiasco: the user base will drop for sure, but how much?

Hi Allan,
but how is the Lumia Camera?
My L1020 camera lost the focus, everything is blur.

Re: Lumia 520, 720, 920, 1020, 1320 Owners

Hi All,

I'm a proud Lumia 925 owner, on the Insider fast ring - current build 1425.10367. I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised, and disappointed. But I also understand that at some point Microsoft needs to move on, and they can't continue to support all of their phones. But it really did seem like that's what they said they were doing. Offer Windows 10 to all phones. At least that's what I took away.

So it sounds like for those that are not on the list, we're stuck on the last update. Am I wrong? I sure hope so. Otherwise that means our phones won't get any support, or updates. Doesn't sound very appealing. I've been happy running Windows 10, and although it's not perfect it's been working fine. I've put off upgrading because I really never thought I would stop getting support, and updates. I'm not sure anymore, and I'm not leaning to switching to Android. Definitely not iOS. But do I need to be prepared to make a switch? What are you guys considering?

Win10 crashes on 512MB phones during intensive use, there's nothing they can do ....
It's like running Windows 10 on a old Pentium with a 512 MB Ram desktop :(

Because someone asked, here's my own translation for a way to get redstone builds on unsupported phones like 920.

I had bookmarked the site with the instruction, but hadn't yet translated it.. so thanks for taking the time to post this. Much appreciated.

L720 owner, stunning phone. I was planning to buy 650, However sadly L720 is my last windows phone thanks to Microsoft's last moment U turn.

Re: Lumia 520, 720, 920, 1020, 1320 Owners

My current phone is Lumia 640, but I also has my old Lumia 620 which has insider build 10586.164 on it and I very dissapointed and frustrated they claim to not update phones like it. My mom has Lumia 525 and I tried to install 10586.164 on it, sometimes phone freezes and she don`t like it. I even tried hard reset and not using backup, problem still here. I have no such problem with Lumia 620, but I don`t using it that hard and there is no SIM in it.

I hoped they would release a new firmware for fix the freezes until the tweets come at 17th of March.
