Why isn't WhatsApp receiving messages on Win 10 Mobile?

WhatsApp Not Receiving Messages on Win 10 Mobile

I have the latest WhatsApp version (2.16.64) running on latest Win 10 Mobile release build (10.0.10586.420) on Lumia 550. WhatsApp is enabled to run in the background, wifi is on and strong, yet any time my phone screen goes off, WhatsApp stops receiving messages and notifications. When I turn the screen on and open WhatsApp, all new messages are downloaded in a few seconds. However, when I turn off the screen again, it stops again. I am also unable to log in WhatsApp web while the screen is off, the web says my phone is unavailable.

I tried turning phone on/off, reinstalling WhatsApp, didn't help. Yesterday's update of Win 10 to the latest version (number above) did not help either.

Am I doing something wrong?

Lumia 640 DS, same whatsapp version & windows version. messages arrive normally. I had a few occasions where I did not get any chats, but other than that, messages are sent & received normally. works in screen on & lock mode
