    Hi guys!

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7559 laptop running the latest Windows 10 Release Preview build, and I'm a student and a gamer, so I frequently bring along this laptop with me and use the touchpad when I'm in uni (I don't bring my gaming mouse since touchpad is enough for me). Thus under the setting, I've set it so that the touchpad is disabled when I plug in my mouse; useful for gaming reasons. I can confirm that this feature works before for so many times.

For the past few months, however, I'm on holiday from school (summer break following Australian time zone), so since I'm at home all the time, I've never used the touchpad for so long so I didn't know when this problem started occurring (probably one of the update caused this bug).

The problem is that now, if I disconnect my mouse, my touchpad does not work. I thought the touchpad was broken, so I went to the Settings tab and it said "A mouse is connected", even when I've unplugged my mouse and my laptop made that sound that it usually makes when something is unplugged, meaning that it does detect the unplugging of my mouse.

I tried re-enabling the "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected", and I can confirm that the touchpad does work fine. It's just that the touchpad remains disabled when I unplugged the mouse when I used the settings I mentioned above in bold.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or if this is a known issue?

P/S: I checked under device manager, and it lists 3 HID-compliant mouse, and a PS/2 compatible mouse. Does this mean something?

Some laptops also have a key on the keyboard to turn off the touchpad. Do you know if yours does? Remove the mouse and reboot the PC. As soon as it powers on, press F2 on a Dell to enter the BIOS setup. In the BIOS screen, try your touchpad and see if the cursor moves. If it does, then you know that the touchpad is working properly, and you have a setting that is disabling it in Windows.

UPDATE: I've found a temporary solution, but there's still a problem. Under Settings -> Devices -> Connected Devices, I can see two entry for mouse; One is the name of my mouse, G102 Prodigy Gaming Mouse, and another HID-compliant mouse. Oddly enough, the G102 Prodigy Gaming Mouse is shown as a keyboard icon.

Anyway, unplugging my mouse, I can see that the G102 Prodigy Gaming Mouse disappear from the entry, but the HID-compliant mouse remains there. I'm not sure why it is so, but THIS phantom mice is the one causing me problems! I removed it, and my touchpad works when I unplug my G102. But after some time, the HID-compliant mouse REAPPEARS. Is my laptop haunted? O.O

Seriously though, does anyone know how to solve this problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

As I said in my original post, I can confirm that my touchpad does work. It's just that my laptop keeps thinking that a mouse is connected to it, even though there are none. Also, can you spare the time to see the update that I posted? I could narrow down my problem, but I have absolutely no clue on how to fix it.

Edit: And no, my laptop does not have the enable/disable touchpad keyboard combo, so I'd have to manually do it via Settings.

And thanks for replying! I really hope I can fix this problem before my school resumes, which is quite soon.
