Have I lost my text messages irretrievably?

I had to go from the insider version of WM10 to the release on my 1520.

Before moving I switched to have the default messaging app manage texts instead of Skype and to sync all messages, not just recent ones. Since there was no sync indication I just left it for a couple of hours with this setting before doing the reset.

I also did a backup of all apps in settings before moving.

On the new OS install I only have a few text messages, mostly recent.

Is there any way I can retrieve the others? Or find out if the master copy of the text messages on Microsoft's server has them?

FWIW I have seen it take more than a day before my many years of texts all re-appeared. Other times, its much quicker. No apparent reason.

That doesn't mean you will get yours back, but not getting them in the first few hours doesn't mean they are gone.

Also FWIW I have never used Skype for messaging.
