Strange Behavior on Edge Mobile

I normally use UC Browser for general browsing, and Edge only when heightened security is required; banking, online purchases etc. But, of course, sometimes I accidentally end up using Edge for general browsing; clicking email links, Cortana searches etc. I have a relatively low cap on my data plan, so I'm extremely sensitive to usage. I have noticed for sometime now that Edge seems to use an excessively large amount of data; and this is when just loading the mobile version of a page. In fact, it seems to use more data loading the mobile version, than my laptop, loading the full version. There's a particular site where loading the same page, full version on laptop mobile version on phone, requires just under 1mb on laptop but almost 5mb on phone! This is totally counterintuitive and I'm wondering if this is unique to my phone, Lumia 640, or it's a general problem, and what could be the underlying cause for this strange behavioral.
