according to
https://ionicframework.com/survey/2017#trends

it seems that mobile web apps are growing at a good healthy rate:

"Finally, 31.5% of developers are targeting progressive web apps. That’s a big jump for something the dev community just started talking about two years ago. Meanwhile, responsive web apps were targeted by 34.7% of respondents. What’s driving this trend? Part of it could be app fatigue among consumers who care more about mobile experiences and less about installing yet another app, and developers who want their apps to run on mobile and desktop web environments, not just in the app stores."

So now windows phone users will only be left out of 65% of apps.

Thing is, I'm not sure Edge is up to the task, especially since browsers like Safari on iOS and Chrome/Firefox on Android are going to be targeted.

Also, a lot of apps that are missing don't lend themselves too well to webapps like Snapchat, Shazam, etc.

Depends on the person of course.

If only the Edge team had been allowed to finish their work on Edge Mobile before Microsoft tapped-out on the W10M platforn, this gruesome transitionary void period would be a lot easier to stomach. As it stands, there is not a single browser that does everything users reasonably need it to on W10M, which is enormously frustrating and disappointing.
