    Hello!

I have several large ext harddrives. When I need to seaech for a file, searching takes forever. On my uncle's iMac, just as you finish typing in the finder's search box, the whole screen is populated with results.

On win7 and now latest win 10, it can be a couple minutes each drive.

I once tried Ultrasearch but that was only marginally better.

Any suggestions? I only need to search file name or type.

    Thanks

    Alex

Ensure that the index is indexing those drives. Or even reset the index. Indexing takes time just as it does on a mac.

Windows should be just as fast, at searching, as the mac. Plus the iMac might have much faster drives.

On my machine, searching through over 64,347 files, on a network share on a computer in the other room, the returned results are instant. My search returned 4,701 files.
