Good evening all :).

About a month ago windows did its thing and did an update. I left it to run as usual, then when when I next came to turning it on nothing happened and went to a loading screen with the following options

-continue, exit and cont. To Windows roll back
-use a device
-use another operating system
-troubleshoot
-turn off your PC

After trying pretty much all of the options the only ?slight improvement is that when I try roll back it has gone from Windows 10 on vol. 4 to vol. 5

Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing mind!

Tried to install from a USB drive too and still nothing.

Is anyone able to shed some light an guidance? Otherwise I will have no choice to take it to a shop.

Thanks in advance 😀

Is it a desktop or a laptop?

If it's a laptop what make and model?

I ask because with some laptops you can remove the hdd/ssd and put it in a external enclosure to recover your data.

Chances are the BCD store is corrupt or you have two or more Windows 10 entries which is creating a conflict.

Go to troubleshoot, then select the option that loads up the command prompt and type in bootrec /scanos.

If you have more than one install listed.

try the following:

  1. bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
  2. c:
  3. cd boot
  4. attrib bcd -s -h -r
  5. ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
  6. bootrec /RebuildBcd

This should completely rebuild the BCD store.

The other alternative is to run easybcd (if you don't want to mess with the BCD store just yet) and use that to create a bootable media. This will give you a GUI that you can easily navigate.
