My Lumia 950 xl screen stopped working. How can I factor reset it to remove all my personal data? Can it be done from a computer?

Yes that will wipe it.

Yes, but if reset protection is enabled it will be stuck asking for the credentials on next setup. So if you don't keep it you need to save the key (if it is enabled) so if you give the phone up and someone decides to try and repair or use it, they can setup again...
