I have a relatively new HP laptop (bought in December last year) running Windows 10 and I recently have a problem that I haven't seen before. Once in a while, the entire computer would freeze up, nothing on the screen would be able to move. Not even the mouse, everything would be stationary on screen. If a video or sound was playing though, the sound would continue to play through the speakers.

I discovered by chance that unplugging the charger if it were plugged in (or plugging it in if it was not) would unfreeze the laptop and everything would "fast forward" all the inputs (keyboard, mouse) that were made while the screen was frozen. This wasn't a frequent problem originally, so I didn't give it much thought. However, it has been occurring more and more frequently to the point where it happens every few minutes and its unbearable.
