Two apps I found recently in the market that was not just a surprise but look great as well.

1. 10Tracks. (free) A music service that allows up to 40 gig of space for your music. You upload from your desktop and either play from the cloud or download to your device. Plenty I don't yet know about it but it has pretty stellar reviews and worth checking out. ( I recommend this one)

Hot Music doesn't download full albums at a time, right? It's still good though as it has underground songs.
And 10 tracks is pretty good, I'm going to be using it!
I'll share the three ones I found for song discovery as well: Last.FM, Livaplasma, and 8tracks.
Last.FM is via algorithm
Liveplasma is also via algorithm
8tracks is via other people
All are great as they include songs not restricted to just American
