How to keep skype running only on notification area

So i received the email from microsoft suggesting to install the "new" desktop edition of skype because the modern app will stop working from july 7th and i did.

The problem is silly but still... i want skype to run in background without having the window always open on the taskbar, but i haven't found an option in skype settings. Anyone knows if and how this can be done?

I'm running Windows 8.1 btw

You have to run the .exe of the program in compatibility mode (XP or Vista)
Right click on the .exe of the program > properties > compatibility
Then the program will be in notification area only, not in taskbar when reduced 😉

Re: How to keep skype running only on notification area

thank you, this actually worked!

EDIT: i was too quick... it stays on the tray but then it freezes when i try to shut it down, won't close. i'm going to try other compatibility settings
