Not going to be a MS apologist here, but you could also say it's like paying $10 for 5 Godiva chocolate bars as opposed to $10 for 8 Snickers bars. Wp7 has a good bit more polish in the experience than does Android.
Having said that, I do have a number of Android devices, and I do agree that the retail price differential is a bit odd. However, I bought a spare HD7 for less than $200- compare that to the cost of the HTC Incredible that I couldn't find for less than $350. The aftermarket price is much closer to what you'd expect for the manufacturer hardware costs.
