Same cover as the 520?

I ordered my 521 on HSN this weekend (can't wait!)
However I'm not much a fan of the white back. Does anybody know if the 520 covers will fit on the 521? I'd like to get a red cover from ebay or something.
In the videos I've looked at, the only differences I can see is that there is a small slit under the camera on the 521 that I don't see on the 520.

So far, couldn't find a site that had BOTH listed.

Phonescoop says the 521 is 4.72" x 2.52" x 0.39" (120 x 64 x 9.9 mm)

GSMArena says the 520 is 119.9 x 64 x 9.9 mm, 75.7 cc (4.72 x 2.52 x 0.39 in)

I'd said they use the same case.

I only hope so has well, that 520 Covers fit 521. The phones are the same, just the bands they run at are different after all. You would only hope Nokia would save some money instead of making and manufacturing new shells for 521, we can just use the 520..

By small slit under camera you mean this. Not on 520 for sure or the it shells..

your picture didn't work for me. But he is talking about a little 1mm by 1mm hole as seen below.

EDIT...but if you look at this, there actually DOES appear to be something in the 521 below the camera that may call for that hole...what though?

Is that a question or you found something?

I'd assume it has to do with light, but a sensor that does what though? And why would they not want it on the 520 but want it on the 521?

I was just guessing has to what it could be. Since it close to camera, maybe it is the sensor. Even the user guide for the 521 show that small hole right below the camera on the shell. I am still guess that is camera sensor which is 1/4". Perhaps they added the hole to let a little more light in since it does not have a flash.

The small slit in the back cover is for the secondary microphone. Secondary mics are used for noise cancellation.:)

Also, to answer the original post, these two devices are different sizes so you cannot share back covers. The 521 is 4.1mm longer.

Lumia 520 (119.9mm x 64mm x 9.9 mm)

Lumia 521 (124mm x 64mm x 11.2mm)

Thanks for the insight there!

GSMArena says the 520 is 119.9 x 64 x 9.9 mm, 75.7 cc (4.72 x 2.52 x 0.39 in)
Nokia says 520: Height: 119.9 mm x Width: 64 mm x Thickness: 9.9 mm x Weight: 124 g

Phonescoop says the 521 is 4.72" x 2.52" x 0.39" (120 x 64 x 9.9 mm)
TMobile Says 521:
124mm x 64mm x 11.2mm Weight: 124.5 grams

I think I found your sources? Nokia and TMobile?

Again...I REALLY wish one site had both options for a head to head comparison! But even Nokia doesn't list the 521.

Anyway, what are the odds that the show is 4.1mm x 1.3mm larger but only adds 0.5 grams? To compare...the 521 is listed at .0888 cm3 vs 520 at .0759 cm3 (17% bigger volume) while the weight is only 0.4% bigger?

So they added .012 cm3 of air? [Does my math all check out?]

T-Mobile until Nokia Post Official Specs on their pages.

Measured Mine and it 124mmx 64mm x 11.2mm..

So highly doubtful that 520 shells will fit correctly on 521..Once again nokia could have just made them the same size..

Worse case scenario, Nokia releases the 3D model for the shell to make custom shells.

Worst case scenario, someone uses a 3D scanner on the shell.

I mean, the way the shell is, it seems likely that it should be replaceable. The buttons are part of the shell, and if they needed access for the SIM and MicroSD, they didn't need a removable shell; They could of just made a little ejectable tray for them, similar to one of the other Nokia Lumia devices (I forgot which one is like that. Saw a Nokia Support video demonstrating it). So im sure, at the very least, some shells should appear after it makes it official debut @ T-Mobile stores.

Nokia did release the 3D file for the 520. I will measure that in my 3D program. BRB

Nevermind. The STL file Nokia released was for the pre-production version of the 520, with the squared backing. It also says its some 3000MM tall. Its of no use to me.

The official specs are out from Nokia and they are different. No idea what they changed between the two but the 520 has a much better battery.

If you look at the two photos of the 520 and 521, it appears the extra 4mm is all for the TMobile logo, haha. But what is causing it to be longer but not heavier!?

520 Specs
521 Specs

Differences I can find:

520:WCDMA network: 900 MHz, 2100 MHz
521:
WCDMA network: 1700 - 2100 MHz, 1900 MHz, 850 MHz

Both 1450 mAh but:
520:

  • Maximum 2G talk time: 14.8 h
  • Maximum 3G standby time: 360 h
521:

  • Maximum talk time (2G): 8.0 h
  • Maximum standby time (3G): 400.0 Hour(s)

Perhaps the extra 4mm doesn't add enough weight to register?
And im sure its for more than the extra logo. the 521 seems to have some kind of thing beneath the camera that the 520 doesn't have (noise-cancelling mic perhaps?) and with the hardware for the added AWS bands and WiFi calling (coming in future firmware update, active after update and full reset.), maybe it has to be a bit taller?

I wish someone could use a 3D scanner on the shell and release the file online. Or Nokia themselves... then we could make our own..

At least I wish they would release cases.

Maybe the 22nd, when its "officially" available at T-Mobile.
