Lumia 625 purchased in India doesn't support AT&T SIM connection in the States

Hi,

I purchased a Nokia Lumia 625 in India. The details are as below:

Name: Windows Phone
Model: Nokia Lumia 625
Software: Windows Phone 8.1 Update

OS Version: 8.10.14234.375
Firmware Revision Number: 3058.50000.1424.0004
Hardware Revision Number: 3.0.0.0
Radio software version: 3.2.28072.7
Chip SOC version: 8930
Screen Resolution: 480x800

I am taking an AT&T connection in the States, but unfortunately it is NOT supported by the phone. But the AT&T SIM Card DOES work in another MotoG phone.

Quick support appreciated. Would be glad to provide more info if required.

If the phone doesn't support the AT&T bands, I really don't believe there is anything you can do..

In Settings > Extras & Info what does it say for "Manufacturer Name" and for "Mobile Operator?"

• LTE FDD network: Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 7 (2600 MHz), Band 20 (800MHz)

So TechFreak1 beat me to it... Your 625 is incompatible with AT&T for anything other than 2G. The MotoG probably has a broader radio including more bands for world travel... At the time of the 625's manufacture Nokia was really focused on region specific radios and pumping out a lot of variants based on this.

If you are going to be in the US long and want a Windows Phone to run on AT&T, you could go to Best Buy or Walmart and get a GoPhone Lumia 640 for only $30 USD.

I have one here, I'm in Field Test looking at it.
GSM quad band which is the world standard
3G Bands 1 (2100) / 2 (1900) / 4 (US 1700) / 5 (US 850)
LTE Bands 2 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 17 / 28

In India, Band 1 (2100) is most common and I think that the 640 would work fine for you back home for 3G/H+ (I'm making the assumption you are visiting the US). The LTE is incompatible at this time for India, but I believe they will be rolling out the common Western standards of FDD Bands like 2 and 4 and moving away from Far East style TDD Band 40...

It might be worth investing the $30, but remove the GoPhone SIM before powering on the phone and get it unlocked from AT&T via their web portal before using it. Unlocks come really quickly... In about 2 days or less for most cases.

I wouldn't switch OS's because of a phone not working in another country, no. That's just how some models are, even after unlocking. It's the phone band's itself, not the OS it runs.
