Although the idea that Nokia ? which is soon to be owned by Microsoft (transition teams are working day and night) ? will release an Android phone seems farfetched, it?s clear that the Finnish company was serious about the device. Dubbed ?Normandy?, the low-end hardware reportedly runs a forked-version of Android, meaning it can?t access core-Google services.
We?ve seen some renders and even a photo, but now a new image has appeared on the Sina Weibo site Palm Uncle (at least, that?s our Bing translation). The photo is interesting because it shows the device wrapped in its protective cover, which is often used to mask its full design. Indeed many Nokia execs carry their pre-production Lumias in such cases when traveling.

This thing has dragged on for too long and there needs to be some assertion from Nokia that this thing is dead otherwise its just going to snowball into more questions about WP's viability. Already some are saying Microsoft should embrace it as if somehow an android device is the solution to poor WP sales but if that's the case why would Microsoft stick with WP at all?

Microsoft needs to stop being so passive with WP and be aggressive, with Nokias hardware division they can lower prices as much as they want and have no need of a low cost android device.

They are being too soft in their approach for fear of annoying their so called partners but these same partners are pushing android any chance they can, even on new PC's. Time to exploit their natural advantage and push their platforms themselves as its clear no one else will do it.
