This is one time you want to take their advice. After the update my Surface 3 was barely useable, absolutely everything on the system lagged heavily. Time to run the recovery!

Step 1: Plug your Surface 3 into a power outlet
- the process will take some time and it will not work if your Surface battery dies during this process.

Step 2: Backup your files
- if you have any files you want to keep save them to disc/OneDrive etc... this process with delete everything.

Step 3: Open your notification tray
- you can do this by swiping from the right edge or clicking the notification icon (looks like a chat bubble)

Step 4: Tap/Select 'All Settings'

Step 5: Tap/Select 'Update & recovery'
- this will be the icon on the bottom right

Step 6: Select the 'Recovery' menu option
- this should be the last option on the menu listing

Step 7: Select 'Remove everything and Reinstall Windows'
- this is the SECOND option on the right

Step 8: Confirm
- you will be prompted to confirm your selection

Step 9: Be patient!
- I would say this process took close to 2hrs! So relax. My Surface seemed to 'stick' on 5% for quite a while, I had almost given up hope, so be patient with this step.
