Microsoft has revealed to the world tonight its plans for making mixed reality mainstream in 2017 and how it managed to get Windows 10 ? the full OS ? to run phone hardware (Windows 10 on ARM). That's a lot of info to digest with a ton of implications for where technology is going in next year.

Egads, when did Windows start requiring 20 frigging GB for just the OS? That is insane.

Much of the code is shared across device platforms. There's also the fact that it is running 2 OS's in a way. The win32 subsystem is there for backwards compatibility and takes up quite a lot. Without it you would have a pretty lean and robust OS. The problem is that UWP would have to become the mainstream choice for apps.
