    You have to wonder just how cheap they need the phones to be. There still are moderately priced non Microsoft phones out there available to order.

    ^ availability isn't the only issue. Such phones still being in production and there continuing to be options is the bigger problem. Right now there is simply no confidence that there will be such options available going forward, so every dime invested into software for WP is a high risk proposition. Not something companies want.
