Lost synced text messages

You are being ridiculous. Even if the problem still exists when released, it's not a big deal for most since the issue is non-existent when upgrading, only refreshes.

It will be a big deal for most if the problem still exists in the final. As the messages do not seem to sync in either direction, you will not be able to back them up using the cloud or sync them between devices. At least they do not sync yet between my 1520 and 820, both on 10581. My desktops are still on 10240 though, so I'm unable to test the sync there. Currently I am pushing the button in the contacts+message backup app from time to time...

Both my 640 and 535 are now on 10581, and they sync between each other.

They've stopped being visible in outlook.com (for the new ones) though, and of course, my last lumia (1020, on 8.1) doesn't sync with the new messages.

I'd add that once 640 was upgraded to 10581, it received "older" messages from the 535 so it's really both ways.

Strange. The 820 was an upgrade from 10547, the 1520 was from 10572. I did a hard reset under these builds. They will not sync currently, at least not between each other. But I cannot tell if both have a problem. Maybe a hard reset will be possible again soon without loosing the SD card, then we'll see. Also TH2 for desktop should bring light into it.

Found an old 920 laying around. Installed fresh 10581, no backup. Within 2 days it SEEMS my messages have restored fully. HOWEVER, nothing past 10/30. Interesting. That was the day I went from 72 to 81. Dunno wtf is going on. Also, numerous reboots(every couple hours) seemed to speed the process. Maybe that's like the sync option in 8.1, under accounts, press and hold.

Thanks! Just checked. Have a bunch of my old ones but here's the weird part: have messages going back to 9/23 of this year, then nothing until December 8, 2014, and then they go back to March 2014. It's like January-August never happened. I only had "Download messages from the last month" selected, so not sure why it skipped Jan. - Aug 2015. Just changed it to download messages from anytime. We'll see what happens.

The good news is that this confirms that our messages are indeed stored in the cloud somewhere and that this is a server-side issue.

Just installed build 10586 and can't seem to find the text message backup option. I see the "Sync messages between devices" option. Does anyone know how to confirm your text messages are getting backed up with this build?

Trekkie24 : this is the new UI for the same thing (was already the case on 10581). If you enable "sync messages between devices", it will save, backup and sync across devices. You'll be proposed the same old options (anytime, last year or last month).

Did you know that you may backup contacts, SMS and MMS by exporting them to SD card in "Transfer my Data", and you may then import them again after restore/reset? L( o) ( o)K:

Had a 1020 on 10586.11 and a 950xl on 10581.00. On the 1020, it was my first build and after restoring at the backup all my texts were there. On the 950 syncing wasn't going... I had tried to turn off sync and back on, on both phones. Didn't noticed anything until tonight. Maybe it worked because I wiped the 1020 to sell it...
