Windows 10 PC and Mobile preview build 14905 rolling out for Fast ring Insiders [Update] | Windows Central

This build and version is the begining of Redstone 2 testing for Insiders on the Fast Ring.

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things 10.0.14905.100, discuss it all here.

[NOTE]Tip: Check out this thread before posting
http://forums.windowscentral.com/wi...you-[recommended-guidelines].html#post3467172[/NOTE]
Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
[TIP]Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.

If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.

Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Windows Device Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.

Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.[/TIP]
[INFO]Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.

A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.

A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.

The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.

The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.

The Windows Device Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version[/INFO]
Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.

What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?

Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
[INFO]When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).

"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you don?t find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
7.Your feedback will automatically upload when you are charging your phone and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can also upload the feedback manually by tapping ? > Upload feedback data."
[/INFO]

Windows 10 Mobile users will get a number of bug fixes and improvements with the preview build 14905:

  • Missed call notifications are now more actionable, with inline options to call back, text or remind yourself to do something about it later.
  • We fixed an issue where videos played in Windows Phone 8 apps might not pause when an incoming call was received.
  • We fixed an issue where, if "Show my caller ID" is set to "My contacts", the contact being called might still see a blocked caller ID.
  • We fixed an issue where the Lock screen might fail to update to the new time after a time zone change.
  • fixed an issue resulting in music not resuming after a call was finished, if Turn-by-Turn directions were being read out from the Maps app when the phone call came in.
There are a couple of known issues in the new Mobile preview build:

  • If you move apps between a SD card and internal storage (either direction), those apps will get stuck in a pending state. The workaround to get your apps working again is to uninstall the app through Settings > System > Storage (apps cannot be uninstalled from All apps list). Then you can re-install the app from the Store.
  • Cortana's text to speech capabilities is not working in this build. For example, Cortana won't be able to read text messages out loud for you, tell jokes, sing, or give verbal prompts.

Re: Windows 10 Mobile build 14905 Discussion (Redstone 2; Fast Ring)

I don't know if this is a new thing or not. I have never get a notification with image, but today, after updating to the newest preview version, a notification popped out saying get to know the new action centre or something, with an image in it. However, it appeared to be buggy as when I tapped on learn more, nothing happened and instead, I was sent to the Start screen.

Seems OK to me so far, the only real change I've noticed so far is that my wake-up alarm played a different tune this morning, but I had read that the sounds had been changed so this wasn't unexpected. Could have done without the turn by turn navigation voice not working though, traveling abroad soon and so could have done with that, though I haven't actually checked it to see if it's not working yet, though Dona Sarkar has no reason to say it isn't working if it really is I guess.

Something I have noticed today that I like, is that photos when sent via email are now shrunk to a more acceptable size.

Before it used to send the photo as it was taken i.e. in the resolution it had been taken - meaning huge files being sent, but today, a typical photo that would have been several mb before was shrunk to just over 300k when sending. Phone is still set to take 16MP pictures. Nice.

Liking some of the new sounds in this build - good stuff!

My number one wishlist for RS2 is for MSFT to make the GUI animations/transitions super buttery smooth (and responsive) again everywhere (for core OS, core apps, all apps from store) along with the usual regular "stability and performance" fixes they keep publishing.

For example, remove the slight delay between the time you press the power button when the phone is on and the click sound - it currently comes a little later than the actual screen shutting off.

"If you build it, they will come."

I had a few apps to update that were failing on my Lumia 640. I changed the default install location from the SD to Main Memory and they installed. These were primarily MS apps that normally default to main memory. There could be some bugs installing apps that normally override the setting to install on the SD card.

What I want for the next builds is to have better (true) multitasking. If I open an app and then touch on the start icon, I want the app to be open in the exact place where I left it. In short, I want Windows Mobile to have equal (or better) multitasking than Android and iOS.

Awesome! That's definitely been an annoyance. Uses up a ton of data, and it's no fun for the recipient either. Better would be if we could choose the file size / compression level.

SEEMS FASTER rofl.

Also, I noticed there was a notification from Action Centre, and expanding it shows a Picture and a paragraph of guide that said something about what Action Centre is, etc.

But what I wanted to highlight here is the picture. It was a full sized picture scaled down to fit the action centre! I don't know if this was there since time immemorial, but its the first for me, and I'm loving it!

This is the one thing keeping me away from this build. This means that when you say 'new appointment', she doesn't audio prompt you for details? I use that quite often.

Re: Windows 10 Mobile build 14905 Discussion (Redstone 2; Fast Ring)

So I did a hard reset after installing this build and now none of the apps will update. They all come up with an error. I have tried uninstalling them (they are the apps that are preinstalled) and then installing and still same error. I have tried using WiFi and cell connections, soft resets, installing a new app, etc. Everything results in an error (0x8024601B) every single time.

Any suggestions on what to try next? Was thinking about rolling back through WDRT and then reinstalling this build.

Summer_Moon, are the apps installed on your device, or the SD CARD? If they are on the SD card, move them to the device; soft reset, update apps again.

Good luck.

Re: Windows 10 Mobile build 14905 Discussion (Redstone 2; Fast Ring)

Issues I have experienced:

> Groove: no sound over phone speakers or BT device (hasn't worked for me on the last three builds; but it seems to be a know issue)

> Call Recorder: is present, and seems to record a call; but, it too, does not playback over phone's speakers, nor BT.

> Cursor: not showing up in the textbox.

> Popup keyboard: not displaying at times (most noticed after using the BACK arrow to re-visit a prior page).
