Windows 10 Mobile build 14393.221 arrives for Release Preview | Windows Central

Note: This is the latest Cumulative Update to Redstone 1 builds on Insider.

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things 10.0.14393.221, discuss it all here.

[NOTE]Tip: Check out this thread before posting

Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
[TIP]Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.

If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.

Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Windows Device Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.

Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.[/TIP]
[INFO]Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.

A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.

A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.

The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.

The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.

The Windows Device Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version[/INFO]
Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.

What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?

Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
[INFO]When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).

"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you don’t find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
7.Your feedback will automatically upload when you are charging your phone and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can also upload the feedback manually by tapping … > Upload feedback data."

Installed it yesterday. The brightness bug is still there on the 950XL, and just now the iris scanner didn't come on until a reboot. Other than that, no major bugs yet.

Edit: out of the blue, yesterday night Bookvisor crashed, its tile became 'dimmed', and in the app list it showed as 'pending'. Looking in the store, there were no updates available or being downloaded. After a while the app came back to life. Never seen this before.

Auto backup. You have the app participating in the advanced backup. If you went to backup you would have seen it going.

On a side note I've noticed a lot of stuttering on my phone. Freezes up for seconds at times. Really odd. Still running warmer than .105. But not as hot as last one.

950xl.

640.
Mine updated overnight last night. Seemed fine all day today - I am resetting again tonight just to make sure if it didn't by itself... honestly, I didn't notice any difference today at all and not until I saw this and then checked my phone that I had updated already.

The best kind of update? The one you don't notice because everything works.

Notifications and background tasks stop working after every few hours until a soft reset. I think started with .67. Very irritating. Considering jumping to the fast ring.

I noticed when you lock your phone on an app like Spotify, and when I unlock my phone and try going to the Start Screen resuming screen appears. This didn't happend in previous bugs.

Thanks. Kind of surprising that this could happen while using the app.

Yah it should warn that a backup is happening and let you pause it or exit application. It used to happen to me with "line messenger' and I just went and removed line app from participating in backup. It already backs up convos on its own servers anyways. The username/password I don't care about re-entering if I ever have to restore.

Haven't seen many reports of this: often when trying to auto-connect to public wifi (e.g. Starbucks, airport) my 950XL will fail once, with a message like "Could not connect". Trying manually the second time almost always works. This has been going on for a while, so not specific to this build, but it's still happening.

It's not for everything either... some apps stop working... skype preview and mail notifications keep working for sure. In my case, it's Client for Hangouts. But it's partly them too I think.

I thought my phone had been running cooler the last few builds with longer battery life, but then I found out that was the case because all background tasks had stopped (along with their notifications)

Are these builds getting any better? It seems most are complaining after each CU.

yea it's better but just only one thing really bugs me is how some apps, and not all, have their notification system break... either they are not coded right or something in the CU is doing it... I lean towards it being developer problem but with eyes on microsoft because this is supposed to be kinda easy for developers too :)

Battery pretty stable.... I've recently started running dual sim so battery is lost cause for me anyhow

I updated yesterday, no issue seen except with 6tag - for some reason it couldn't upload a vertical 4:3 image, just kept sitting there with a black screen - square photo worked

I have had but a single issue since the update, and have had it on two different phones, both Lumia 640's. While I also question battery life with the MS Band (an issue that was addressed in a prior release but may have been lost in this one) the only thing I can say with no question is that mail and calendar has developed an issue in that email and calendar will sometimes hang, and ultimately close/crash without warning. E-Mail sync's without issue, and anything added to a corporate exchange server calendar is fine but not so for my outlook/live/Hotmail account. In fact, no calendar entries will sync since I performed the update. If I add an entry online, it does not download to either phone. If added to the phone, it will show until you exit the app, then disappear having never synced online.

Yes I have deleted and re-added the account, no luck thus far. I can't tell if this is app related or OS related, but most developers outside of Microsoft tend to blame a change in the OS when their app's behave incorrectly.

If we have other Hotmail/live/outlook personal users please let me know if you have this behavior as well. My calendar at calendar.live.com is my bread and butter and I am simply unable to determine if I alone am having this issue. But to have it on two different devices? Hmmmm....

Thanks in advance to anyone who can validate their results!

Although the push notification problem has resolved itself automatically, now the "black screen during unlock" problem has returned for which I did a factory reset without restoring backup a couple of weeks ago.

Too bad I can't reset anymore, as a few of the apps I used regularly have been removed from the store due to missing age ratings.

Have been banging away at my only problem with the email and calendar crashing, and calendar entries not syncing on my live account. Still do not know if it is OS or app related, but it worked before the update, stopped after on two different Lumia 640's and only seen on my live not corporate account calendars. Downloaded One Calendar and it is able to download and upload calendar entries so it isn't account related.

Why not? I have these 2 issues from the last 4-5 builds, on my 950XL. Both issues return even after a factory reset and without restoring from backup and I see I am not the only one with these problems.

1. Background tasks and push notifications for all apps except MS apps would stop (Disqus, WindowsCentral, Whatsapp, Viber etc), soft reset would fix this for a few hours, but then the problem would return.
2. Sometimes, when unlocking the screen, the screen doesn't turn on for 5-6 seconds (remains black), but I can see that the Iris scanner turns on and unlocks the phone. When the display does turn on after 5-6 seconds, the phone is unlocked already.
