Windows 10 Mobile build 14977 Discussion (Redstone 2; Fast Ring)
- Windows 10 Mobile build 14977 rolling out for Insiders on the Fast Ring | Windows Central
https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexp...Jb3KrOiRjsI.97
Another week, another Insider Preview build for Insiders on the fast ring. Today's build is 14977 and is rolling out for Mobile and features more bug fixes and other minor improvements over the preview build.
Today's build is only for Mobile as there's a blocking bug on the PC compile that would cause apps to stop functioning correctly.
Build 14977 is rolling out now for those on the fast ring, if you can't see the build just yet, don't worry, the update is still propagating throughout Windows Update and therefore may take a few minutes to show up. Microsoft has posted the full changelog, which is reprinted below.
What's new, improved and fixed?
- Read EPUB books in Microsoft Edge on your phone: In addition to being able to read any unprotected e-book in the EPUB file format on your PC with Microsoft Edge you can also read unprotected e-book in the EPUB file format with Microsoft Edge on your phone!
- We've changed the rendering technology used for many types of UWP app content, so please provide feedback through the Feedback Hub if you notice any new visual glitches in UWP apps.
- Alarms sent by 3rd party alarm apps will now break through Cortana's Quiet Hours we appreciate all the app developers who logged feedback requesting this, keep it coming!
- We've removed the top-level option in Notification Settings to disable alarms on the lock screen alarm reliability is a top priority for us, and we've found this setting was frequently enabled accidentally, without awareness that it would stop alarms from waking the phone when the phone was locked. For those who still wish to enable this setting, it's will continue to be available under the per-app notification settings.
- Notifications from Settings can now be customized or disabled option is available under Settings > System > Notifications > Settings
- We have enabled OAuth support for Yahoo Mail accounts. This will improve sync reliability for those accounts, and provide a secure experience while browsing your email.
- We fixed an issue where disconnecting and reconnecting a wired headset while watching a video might result the audio no longer working.
- We fixed an issue Insiders may have experienced where certain music apps would unexpectedly stop playing music after a single song.
- We fixed an issue where closing a tab in Microsoft Edge, exiting the app, and then relaunching it would sometimes result in Edge opening to a blank page with the closed tab's web address in the URL bar.
- We fixed an issue where the Start Settings page wasn't rendering when opened on external screen while using Continuum.
- We've made a number of translation improvements, including, for French (France and Canada) speakers, fixing a grammatical error in the "Don't Forget!" text seen when shutting down the phone so it now says "N'oubliez pas", and for Chinese speakers, fixing an issue where the option to clear the Chinese Input Method Editor's input history was displaying in English rather than Chinese. If you see any other translations that aren't as you'd expect, please log feedback we're listening! We fixed an issue where, if the setting to show notifications above lock had been turned off, booting the device and immediately checking the Action Center while the phone was locked could result in the Action Center not displaying any notifications after the phone had been unlocked. We fixed an issue Insiders may have experienced where the Camera app might not appear after using the hardware camera button while the screen was off or while on the Glance screen.
- We fixed an issue where Bangla (Bangladesh) keyboard text prediction might stop working after entering character followed by a vowel mark.
Known issues
- Please avoid attempting to install new languages, keyboards, and speech packs on your phone. There is a chance these downloads may get stuck and not finish downloading. If you have existing languages, keyboards, and speech packs installed they will carry over when you update to new builds. You can use Windows Device
- Recovery Tool to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 or Windows 10 Mobile, install any languages, keyboards, and speech packs you need and then update to the latest build in the Fast ring as a workaround.
- Windows 10 phones with 8GB of internal storage such as the Lumia 550 and 650 will likely receive an 0x800700b7 error when attempting to update to this build.
- System related notification toasts (e.g. Bluetooth, USB/Autoplay, etc.) do not work.
This build and version is the latest Redstone 2 build in testing for Mobile Insiders on the Fast Ring.

Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
[TIP]Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.
If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.
Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Windows Device Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.
Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.[/TIP]
[INFO]Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.
A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.
A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.
The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.
The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.
The Windows Device Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version[/INFO]
Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.
What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?
Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
[INFO]When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).
"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you don’t find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
7.Your feedback will automatically upload when you are charging your phone and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can also upload the feedback manually by tapping … > Upload feedback data."

And, again, camera issues. Take a picture and the phone restarts. Also the files that are created are thumbnail files, not high quality jpg's.12-02-2016 03:05 PMLike 0

- L950 (ATT version), build 14977
1. It has been 8 hours post-update and Edge favorites have not yet synced. This is a VERY long standing issue going back to the beginnings of Edge. On 14965 they did eventually sync, but I don't think it took this long. Yes, I am signed into my MS account. OneDrive works, so my account is recognized and active. Just no favorites sync.
2. I had to resort to a FDR before Windows Update would present this update. After the FDR it was immediate.
3. Is Glance supposed to react to motion like it used to? This vanished on (I think) 14955 and I never got an answer in another thread about whether this was by design or not. It DOES respond to the prox sensor, but not to motion (like picking the phone up off a table). It used to.

- So far on my 950 XL DS US, everything is running as expected. No syncing issues and the unlock lag is gone. At least for now. I was having a couple of bluetooth issues but unpairing and re-pairing resolved those.

- So far so good.
What I DON'T like:
- I'm getting 'Loading...' when opening Settings app
- Windows Central app is freezing and crashing (app problem?)
- Edge reloads pages when switching tabs (I hate this from day 1)
- Missing some item names in Settings > System > Notification & Actions > senders
- Camera starts 'Saving...' after ~10 pictures are taken
Windows 10 Mobile needs some caching to avoid reloading thumbnails in Photos, tabs in Edge, option list in Settings, etc... Just remember what's there and stop refreshing it every time!- Share

- Still get a delay when hitting the wake up button. Red iris scanner light comes on red but screen remains black and blank for a while before the device finally decides to wake. Often times when this happens too, the screen is severely dimmed. A quick restart helps fix it, but it comes back every once in a while.12-02-2016 07:53 PMLike 0
- When scrolling through an opened email while reading. It was really very slow and laggy. Anyway, Ive reseted the phone and went back to the slow ring (143939.448). Problem solved.12-02-2016 08:18 PMLike 0

- OK, update time. We're now about 15 hours post-update and SOME of my favorites have synced. Maybe 50% of them. I think I even saw one sync while I was looking at them. Maybe this time next week they will all be there? Good thing I have a bookmarks app and don't really have to rely on Edge favorites.
Paul
I'm now at 24 hours post-update and and it does not appear as though any more favorites have synced than were present in update #1 above (~15 hours post-update). I estimate about 50% are still missing. There does not seem to be any pattern to the missing favorites.
Paul12-03-2016 06:41 AMLike 0 - Not sure about this problem occurring again after the update to the Outlook app just now, but this morning immediately after I updated my L950 to this build, my email notification will not be dismissed after I use either of the Outlook quick-actions. After choosing either of the option, the notifications will be dismissed, but the banner will remain. Closing and re-opening the Action Centre, the e-mail notification is still there. The only way to dismiss it as usual is to swipe the notification away, rendering the Outlook quick-actions useless for now :(12-03-2016 07:12 AMLike 0
- Odd problem here, 950 XL ds, I went from 14393.448 to insider fast ring, 14977.1000, I then performed a hard reset...I am missing all the apps that begin in "O", OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook Mail, and Outlook Calendar. Too funny, the inconsistencies of the Windows 10 mobile is beyond belief, this stuff can change by what direction the wind is blowing, the same phone, installing the same release with totally different results.
I could repeat this charade every day and have a different behaving phone! How entertaining!! NOT
This is NOT limited to insider preview fast builds, this is ALL Windows 10 devices. I want precision and predictability with my phone, not it's own unique personality- I have a dog for that.Last edited by Mark F24; 12-03-2016 at 11:28 AM.

- Text input stops displaying text after a few characters, until I exit the app and go back. So annoying.
Bluetooth disconnect and reconnect issues. 3.5mm port has same issue with headphones. Causes Groove to stop playing and not continue. But YouTube vid works. Go figure. Need to soft reboot phone to fix often times. Been several builds already.12-03-2016 03:30 PMLike 0
