    I believe the ringback tone is provided by your carrier. Sprint offers this service.

    AT&T and Verizon both offer them for sure.

    It's like $1.99 a month, and $1 for every new tone. Verizon did have some pretty specific customization options. I'm not sure about AT&T.

    Check out ect's blog post on 'The most common misunderstandings about ring back tones' I think that explains the whole ringback tone and "how can I get ringback tones on my phone?" think quite good.
