When connected to a WiFi network, is my carrier data connection bypassed by default?

I had always assumed that if the wifi icon was showing it was using data through wifi, if the 3g icon was showing it was using cell data. I have unlimited so never really cared to find out if that was the case. I would assume that is the case though.

I do believe so. That seems to be how it works on my AT&T LG Quantum. Not sure if it is true for other carriers.

NOTE: WiFi is not active when your screen is locked so you will be useing 3g.

I turn off my 3g whenever possible so as not to leak data.

For the HD7, WiFi has priority over the carrier's data connection.

so technically, with a dummy SIM card, I can use my windows phone as a media player then right? Netflix, youtube, and the zune cover arts/artist bios will all work without a data plan?
