Messaging vs Call Alert types

It seems there is no way to have messaging on vibrate and have call on loud or vice versa. Same goes for messaging on vibrate and call on silent (same with the opposite again). Is this true!? What a basic concept. This is a feature that almost every phone ever release has. Flip phones, non smartphones, anything can do this. Can someone please help me and tell me if there is a way to differentiate the alert types for calling and messaging?

This is a recurring complaint. There are many threads about it. In a word, no.
