It's said that Microsoft was providing a financial incentive to Nokia to produce super cheap phones for China and developing markets. While this is a good strategy for Microsoft and Nokia to break into these markets.
As we know China has the largest population in the world and the majority of them can hardly afford the expensive samrtphone like iPhone, and if you checked out taobao (one of the biggest b2c online shop in China),youll find the best selling smartphone are focused on thoes under ¥1000 or just like the Lenovo a 750 (u can search on google or check here the hottest lenovo a 750 to get more specific info about lenovo a 750)which occupies the NO.1 Of best selling smartphones for more than one month in China.

if Microsoft attach more importance on China or any developing countries,it can be viewed as the two companies essentially giving up on the U.S. to a degree, ceding market share to the current juggernauts of Android and iOS. But this doesn’t have to be the case; Microsoft can emerge as a true third platform, and perhaps even unseat one of the two industry leaders by focusing on the enterprise. only in this way can Microsoft kill two birds in one stone.

focusing on China or developing market does not equal to give up on U.S. Smartphone market, we can figure out from win8 and surface that WS is on its way up.
