So here is what is going on.
I have a Lumia 900, WP7.8.
Throughout the life of my phone, when I added contacts I would be prompted to add it to google or MS Live. I always chose google. My google account was recently hacked, so I reset my passwords and implemented 2-step verification. This caused my google account on my phone to disconnect and unsync. I eventually found out how to resync everything with 2-step verification. My email now seems to work fine, but all of the contacts I once had are gone. Many of the text message threads I had going are still there, but are now read-only since the contact numbers are no longer in the phone. When I access my gmail account in-browser, I can use the "search people" box on the left to search for a contact and their corresponding number will pop up.
