Besides being able to download more games are there any other advantages of having 1gb ram as WP runs smooth even on 512mb ram

Simply put more and more apps are going to come out with 1GB limitations. The apps are always released for 1GB first then they optimize them for 512MB. That's the advantage of having 1GB, you'll always get the apps first.

Saying that, there are phones coming out with 2GB so take it from there. New 512MB devices should not be released after the release of WP8.1 in my opinion but Nokia has already got the 630 lined up.

Multitasking is also smoother I've found with 1GB compared to 512MB, a lot less 'Resuming' or 'Loading' and more using...

The two most popular Nokia phones have 512k of ram. Can't hurt them too much or they would not be that popular. Both my wife and daughter use 512k phones, they have no problems doing what they want to do on their phones. Now maybe if you are a POWER user, but for 90 percent of people 512 is fine. There are other things on 512k phones that are more missed than memory.

Yes, suspended apps can be dumped out of RAM if memory is getting tight. Resuming the app will require it to be reloaded and reinitialized with the state we hope was saved when the app was suspended. Some apps do a better job of that than others.

Having more RAM means that this happens less often. Resuming apps is faster, and generally, the preservation of the app state will be more reliable.

Another way of seeing it is that 1GB users gets to use the unfinished memory-hogging version of the app before the optimized bug-free, well working version is launched.

How much memory is reserved in 1GB and 2GB devices?

    Serious question?

It works better. I'd like to try FIFA 14 on my phone but it requires 1GB which I do not have. I would think bringing up apps, particularly from 'sleep'. might be faster with more memory too.
