After the 8.1 update, my Battery life went through the floor!
I've now found that the problem was that all my email accounts (I had several!) had been set to check for email 'automatically' - ie, to let the phone figure out how often to check for email, but by default, this starts off as 'as items arrive' - in other words, push email had been turned on for all my email accounts.
I've now set my email to be checked periodically as I had it before (so, every 30 minutes in my case).
Battery life has now dramatically improved - couldn't be happier!
