Hanging problems in WP 8.1

After the WP 8.1 update, the latest one my phone has started to hang. It usually happens while I'm using WhatsApp and I press back button a few times to exit it. Even though I'm back to the start screen but as soon as I swipe down to bring the action center only the blue bar comes down and my phone is stuck there and nothing responds for some time.i have to hold the lock button to bring the turn off screen which also comes up after quite a delay. Only after that I can start using my phone again. During this time I could see the live tiles animating but nothing responds. Update: I noticed this happens with WPCentral app also. As if all the RAM had been used up and the phone is stuck. My phone is a Lumia 525

WhatsApp is currently having serious problems as reported by all major WP news outlet.
Wait until they update it

But that doesn't only only happen with WhatsApp. It sometimes happen with other apps too.
