I am new to windows phone and would like to try out this os(my 1st smartphone), and have heard about many positives like unique design, fast and stable, etc. But the problem worrying me the most is the other storage, which could occupy tons of storage, with hard reset as the only solution.
what I would like to know us it better handled in wp 8.1 or not and would installing apps on sd will help.

Btw, looking forward to a NL 525.

Other storage is no big problem in 8.1, they fixed it.

My Other storage in WP8 never got above 1.5GB in almost a year of use, but now in WP8.1, if I run the new Storage Sense in Settings it says Other has nothing in it. But if I run the Lumia storage check app, then it says I still have 1.5 GB in Other. Which one is correct?

    Thanks.

Check and compare other values. For example system has 1.9 GB in old storage check, but in storage sense it has 2.7 GB. That other files are still there, they just are distributed differently.
