Uninstalling 8.1 on Nokia Icon

Guys - great community. Brand new to WP. Picked up an Icon on Craiglist and have been pretty happy with it. 8.1 seems a little buggy on my device (getting hot, power button not waking he device, menus a little slow with NOTHING running), so I was going to "downgrade" to 8.0 until the official 8.1 hit.

Took a look at this post (http://forums.windowscentral.com/nokia-lumia-icon/283305-nokia-updater-rolling-back-8-0-a.html) and followed the steps. I keep getting an error message that reads "Software Installation Failed. Error code 0x80131500. You may try to recover or cancel. If you cancel, your phone may stop working."

This might be an insanely stupid question, but is there any chance at all the 8.1 I have on there isn't the developer preview? Any ideas on how to go about this? Phone seems to work fine after I hit cancel, albeit with 8.1 on.

Since you are already willing to wipe the phone maybe try doing a hard reset and then try the Software Recovery tool again. I used the tool to reset a 520 and it worked.

Well actually you can not downgrade to 8.0 ?cause you are in a beta, i?ve tried to, but is impossible, way to go! 8.1 is better

You actually can downgrade to 8.0. Just finished doing that actually and 8.0 is running smoothly on my L925. You may have just had a stroke of bad luck. You might have to do a full reset then, just in case.

Not sure about now, but my Icon came with 8.0 when I picked it up.

That being said after a couple of buggy weeks the 8.1 seemed to smooth out and it's been running great. Easily enough battery life for a full day and no more overheating/battery drain episodes.

Icon will probably have a firmware update before 8.1 is released. Heating up and draining battery is from location services. Shut that off and its fine no more overheating.
Sent from my Verizon Icon

You most certainly can downgrade if you use the Nokia Software Recovery tool. As I posted I managed to revert to 8.0 on a 520 I use as a music player.

Tried the reset, still getting the error message. Am I totally hosed here? 8.1 has some cool features, but not being able to get Netflix and WatchESPN are really a downer.

Will there eventually be an updated to get DP 8.1's on the same kernel/path as everyone who waited, or am in some sort of dead end?
